Biography of Robert Frost Essay -- American Poets Robert Frost Biograp
ââ¬Å"Rightly or wrongly, Robert Frost has achieved a reputation as a poet of natureâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Gerber 155). Yes, Frost does use imagery of nature in his poems, but to say he is a ââ¬Å"nature poetâ⬠is distorting his poetry by overlooking the poemââ¬â¢s darker complexions (Gerber 155). An aspect of his poems that is frequently overlooked is the main characterââ¬â¢s internal conflict. In ââ¬Å"The Road Not Takenâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Eveningâ⬠characters are faced with an inner conflict metaphorically described by nature. In these two poems Frost uses nature to hide the reality of how self-conscious the main character actually is. Robert Frost was born in San Francisco, California on March 26, 1874. When his father died in 1885 he moved to Massachusetts with his mom and sister (Sweeny and Lindroth 5). He spent his whole life in the Massachusetts area. ââ¬Å"Frost attended high school in that state, and then Dartmouth College, but remained less than one semesterâ⬠(Michalowski). At the age of thirty-eight Frost decided to move him and his family to England. While in England his first book, A Boyââ¬â¢s Will, was published in 1913. A few years later he returned to America where his second book, North of Boston, was published (Michalowski). Although he spent three years of his life in England, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦little of his verse reflects any specific English imageryâ⬠(Sweeny and Lindroth 11). Massachusetts and other New England areas were the setting for the majority of Frostââ¬â¢s poetry. The nature in the New England area played a big role in his life and influenced his poetry a lot (Sweeny and Lindroth 7). ââ¬Å"Nine generations of New Englanders had produced Robert Frost, and he in turn produced in his poetry a distillation of all that is New Engla... ...chusetts. 1982 Michalowski, Jay. ââ¬Å"Biography of Robert Frostâ⬠. Australia slashes wheat forecast Essay
In Australia, the commodity markets for wheat hit a formidable loss, as an ongoing drought reduced the predicted crop forecast by a crushing 30%. Australia being the second largest wheat exporter in the world, only behind the United States of America, plays an important role in the distribution of food. Although, in recent years the quantity demanded has risen due to the change in eating habits in China, the growing interest in the use of durum wheat as a bio-fuel, and rising demand for wheat in developing countries. These factors have all contributed to the shortage of wheat, and rising prices of wheat products. For example, pasta in Italy has risen from à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½0.26 per kg to à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½0.45 per kg, and supermarkets may further increase this price by 20% by the end of the year (2007). This rise in price of pasta has created major problems, and protests in Italy, as pasta is Italyââ¬â¢s national dish. Italianââ¬â¢s average consumption of pasta is 28kg a year, making it their staple food. Overall, international wheat prices have risen by a startling 350% in the past five years, and global reserves are at their lowest since the early 1980ââ¬â¢s causing geopolitical stress in terms of shortage of food. Since the price of wheat, which is a commodity, (Homogenous goods that are raw materials in critical industries)1 has risen dramatically over the past 5 years, governments across the world should (in a graphical sense) try to shift the demand curve left. The demand (the quantity of goods and services that consumers are willing and able to buy at all prices, for a given time period, ceteris paribus)2 for wheat has been going up, but due to the supply shock (in unplanned change in supply usually occurring because of changes in weather conditions or an external change outside the control of the company or economy)3 ââ¬â the drought in Australia ââ¬â the supply (the quantity of goods and services that producers are willing and able to produce for a given time period, ceteris paribus)4 of wheat has decreased dramatically, which has caused a shortage (A deficiency in amount; an insufficiency)5 of it on the global market. Shifting the demand curve left can be done though manipulating the non-price determinants of demand for wheat. Some realistic options of doing this are: the Italian government can reduce taxes to give people a higher income (buy less pasta), the Chinese government can increase income taxes to lower peopleââ¬â¢s income (buy less meat), negative advertising of wheat and lowering the price of substitutes for wheat (buckwheat, rice, soy products, or other grains). In Italy, since pasta is an inferior good (Items for which an increase in income results in a fall in the amount bought e.g. bread, linoleum and coal)6, in theory people should buy less of it if their incomes rise. In China, since eating habits are changing to eating more meat, farmers are feeding their livestock more wheat for them to grow. By decreasing the Chinese peopleââ¬â¢s income, they will automatically buy less meat (normal good ââ¬â Goods to which the general law of demand tends to apply)7. Also, negative advertising of wheat will dissuade people from buying wheat, and will thus push people to buy a wheat substitute, which will be even more of an incentive if the prices of the substitutes are lower than wheat. Also, the demand for wheat used as a bio-fuel can be solved by using other substitutes, such as experimenting with different bio-fuels, like corn. Therefore, the price of wheat can and should be lowered through decreasing the demand for the commodity, as the marginal social benefit of feeding people, has more weight compared to the marginal social costs of the governmental costs of increasing incomes, and lowering prices of substitutes. Shifting the supply curve to the right through the use of a buffer stock scheme (A buffer stock scheme is a form of intervention to try to stabilize the price of a commodity. Stocks of the commodity are kept and sold when the price is high to try to reduce it. When the price is low further stocks of the commodity are bought)8 will be too difficult, or impossible as the reserves of wheat are very low. In short, there would be no other alternatives to fully rectify the shortage, other than rationing, which would still keep some people hungry as there is a shortage. 1 Notes: Commodity Markets ââ¬â 29th September, 2008 2 Notes: The Law of Demand ââ¬â September 17th, 2008 3 http://www.bized.co.uk/cgi-bin/glossarydb/browse.pl?glostopic=0&glosid=1213 4 Notes: The law of Supply ââ¬â September 24th, 2008 5 http://www.answers.com/topic/shortage 6 http://www.bized.co.uk/cgi-bin/glossarydb/browse.pl?glostopic=0&glosid=623 7 http://www.bized.co.uk/cgi-bin/glossarydb/browse.pl?glostopic=0&glosid=680 8 http://www.bized.co.uk/cgi-bin/glossarydb/browse.pl?glostopic=0&glosid=1121

Evolution And Evolution Of Natural Selection - 1826 Words
i. Evolution refers to change over time due to natural selection as organisms adapt and diverge to produce multiple descendant species (Huxley L., Walter M., 2005, p. 698). Two pillars which form the basis of all current knowledge of evolution originate from the historical record of evolutionary change, fossil record and the study of the process of evolutionary change, specifically the effect of natural selection. Recent developments in science, including molecular and developmental biology, have greatly contributed to the understanding of biological diversity and how evolution has changed multiple species, particularly the human species (Losos J., 2014, pp. 3). ii. The concept of natural selection was partially introduced by naturalist Charles Darwin in 1859 when he proposed and provided scientific evidence to describe evolution as the idea that all species have evolved over time from common ancestors through the process of natural selection. To survive in a particular environment, Darwinââ¬â¢s theory proposes that natural selection is the mechanism where organisms must possess attributes that increase their chance of survival in that environment (Chidrawi G., Robson M., Hollis S., 2010, pp 114). Therefore, there will be a tendency for these attributes to be perpetuated and other less appropriate attributes to be lost from the population over successive generations (Huxley L., Walter M., 2005, pp. 698, 704). iii. Rollo the Walker - Scandinavian Founder of Normandy
Rollo of Normandy was also known as Rolf, Hrolf or Rou; in French, Rollon. He was sometimes called Robert and was also known as Rollo the Viking.Ã It was said Rollo was too tall to ride a horse without his feet reaching the ground, and it was for this reason he was known as Rollo the Walker or Rollo the Gangler or Ganger.Ã What Was Rollo of Normandy Known for? Founding the duchy of Normandy in France. Although Rollo is sometimes called the first Duke of Normandy, this is somewhat misleading; he never held the title of duke during his lifetime. Charles III (the Simple) of France was able to hold Rollo off for a while, but he eventually negotiated a treaty to stop him. The treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte gave Rollo part of Nuestria in return for his agreement that he and his fellow Vikings would stop pillaging any further in France. It is believed that he and his men may have converted to Christianity, and it is recorded that he was baptized in 912; however, the available sources conflict and one states that Rollo died a pagan. Because the region was settled by Northmen or Normans, the territory took on the name Normandy, and Rouen became its capital. Before Rollo died he turned over the governance of the duchy to his son, William I (Longsword). A rather questionable biography of Rollo and other dukes of Normandy was written in the eleventh century by Dudo of St. Quentin. Three Sources on the Ravages of the Northmen in Frankland, c. 843 - 912includes information on Rollo from the Chronicle of St. Denis; at Paul Halsalls Medieval Sourcebook.

Marketing mix strategy Marketing mix is one of the process of marketing the products or services and the business of an organization in the market or among the consumers. As mentioned earlier, the marketing strategy or the way of marketing can turn out to be the key of any company as it decides the future of the company and determines whether the company will be up graded or degraded, it is the responsibility of the managing department of the organization to implement better ways of marketing in the workplace. The best way of marketing is undoubtedly the marketing mix strategy(Banks, Walker, 2012). This process is also known as 8p strategy . in this process the company or th4e managing department of the company would have to be concerned about eight various factors for the betterment of the organization or the trade of the organization. the factors that affect the marketing mix of the company are product, the pricing strategy of the products, the promotional strategy of the products, placement of the comp any or the launch of the product, people related with the company, partnerships, process of business and the physical resource needed for the company. these are the factors that the company or the managing department of the organization would have to be aware of for the conduction of the business in a successful manner. Product The only thing that represents the organization in the market or among the customers is the product or the service that the managing department of the organization is providing to the customers of the company(Kalaitzandonakes, Phillips, Wesseler, Smyth, 2016). there are many organization that serves the same product to the customers. thus in a market of such rivalry and competition, the managing department of the mentioned company would have to provide something better and something unique to the customers, otherwise, the managing department of the organization would not be able to attract the customers. for the development of the products, the managing department of the organization would have to get the information about the products of the other rival organizations, this will help the company or the managing department of the company to design their products in a better way. This is how the managing department of the organization could be able to attract the customers(Lonkila, 20 11). Price The pricing strategy is another thing that the managing department of the organization would have to be aware of for the betterment of the organization. if the company or the organization can provide good quality products in a low cost, they will surely be able to satisfy the needs of the consumers which is the prime target of any company. whatever company it is, the main target of the managing department of the organization is to attract as much as customers are possible. For that the managing department of the organization would have to satisfy the customers of the company. low price strategy has always been useful for any company to attract more customers. in this process also, the managing department of the organization would have to perform a strong and successful competitor analysis for the betterment of their own pricing strategy. If the managing department of the organization gets the information about the pricing strategy of the rival companies, it will be easier for them to determine the price of their product. Promotion After the determination of the price of the products, it is the time for the managing department of the organization to promote the products or the services in the market or among the public(Lonkila, 2011). If the product or the service or in one word, the business of the company is not promoted among the customers, the customers would not be able to know about the company or the particular product which is obviously not good for the company. there are many ways to promote the products I the market, such as through television or radio which is one of the most widely used medium for promotion, other than this, promotional campaigns are also very much helpful for the company to promote the product of the company among the customers. if the managing department of the company can make good use of the promotional strategies, then they would be able to bring more profit in the business and would be able to develop the business of the company(Parker, 2006). Place The next point that the company or the managing department of the must be aware of is the place of the launch of the product. The environment of the business r the company is directly related with the mentioned point. If the environment of the business does not support the product or the service of the company, the product would not be able to please the customers and as a result the managing department of the company or the whole organization would have to face a severe downfall. To avoid this kind of happening, it is the responsibility of the managing department of the organization to be more concerned about the place of the business(Rider, Hasselberg, Waluszewski, 2013). For the selection of the correct place, the managing department of the company would have to perform a environmental analysis. this will help the managing department o the organization to know more details about the place where they are planning to run their business. These are the basic facts that the company wo uld have to be concerned of for the betterment of the placement of the product or the business as a whole. People As mentioned earlier in the above passage, the people related with the company are another aspect that affects the future of the company(Sawant, 2010). if the people of the place of the business are not supportive towards the business of the company, the managing department of the organization would never be able to get success for the company or the business of the organization. Thus the managing department of the organization would have to know more information about the people of the country of their business. This will also help the managing department of the company to get more accustomed with the society and the environment of the people of the nation. This is one of the most useful nod beneficial factors for the company, if the managing department of the company can make good use of the support of the people of the country, they would surely get success. Partnership Investment of the money in any organization or in any business is something which needs more attention and seriousness. Whenever the company or the business is divided in partners, the whole duty and responsibility of the business gets divided into them. Then it is the responsibility of the company or the owners of the company to maintain their own responsibilities accordingly, otherwise the partners of the business would indulge themselves into some kind of internal clash or conflicts, which is obviously not good for the future of the company. these are the factors related to the partnership in business, that the managing department or the authority of the company must be aware of for the betterment of the business of the organization(Van?k, Mikol, Ã
½vkov, 2012). Process The process of business in not a single unit, it is connected to many things or factors, such as the production procedure of the company, the performance of the employees of the company, the performance of the managing department of the company, the behavioral aspect of the company and many other. All the factors in one word can be defined as the process of the business(Weinstein, 2001). Thus the managing department of the organization or the employees of the company would have to be more concerned about the development of the mentioned factors. If the mentioned factors are not developed to the mark, the managing department or the authority of the organization would never be able to get success in their business. Thus for the betterment of the trade of the organization, it is the responsibility of the company or the managing department of the organization to be aware of the mentioned facts and to apply the needed strategies for the improvement of the organizational factors. Physical resource For any organization or business, the physical resource plays a vital role, if the managing department o the company do not have enough employees for the completion of the tasks in time, the managing department of the organization or the company as a whole, would not tube able to run their business properly. To decrease the work load from the workers of the company, it is the responsibility of the managing department of the organization to have more reliable and dedicated employees for the company or the trade of the organization(Wood, 2012). Marketing module Segmentation strategy Division is a standout amongst the most imperative and indistinguishable parts of showcasing technique. In this procedure, the administration of the organization separates the diverse segment of their organization into different segments. This procedure helps the administration to care for the business bitterly. Underground Railroad Argumentative Essay Example For Students
Underground Railroad Argumentative Essay Word Count: 1489I know youre wondering, what railroad? Well the simple fact is that everybody has heard of the , but not everyone knows just what it was. Firstly, it wasnt underground, and it wasnt even a railroad. The term Underground Railroad actually comes from a runaway slave, who while being chased swam across a creek and was out of the owners sight. The owner said must have gone off on an underground railroad. That man was Tice Davids, a Kentucky slave who decided to live in freedom in 1831. The primary importance of the Underground Railroad was the on going fight to abolish slavery, the start of the civil war, and it was being one of our nations first major anti-slavery movements. We will write a custom essay on Underground Railroad Argumentative specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The history of the railroad is quite varied according to whom you are talking. Slavery in America thrived and continued to grow because there was a scarcity of labor. Cultivation of crops on plantations could be supervised while slaves used simple routines to harvest them, the low price at which slaves could be bought, and earning profits as a bonus for not having to pay hired work. Slaves turned to freedom for more than one reason. Some were obsessed with being free and living a life where they were not told how to live. Others ran due to fear of being separted or sold from friends and family. Then there were some who were treated so cruely, that it forced them to run just to stay alive. Since coming to America as slaves even back as far back as when the first colonies began, slaves wanted to escape. They wanted to get away from the situation they were forced into. Those who were free were the whites who were somewhat separated in values. The North, was a more industrialized area wh ere jobs were filled by newly imported immigrants, making them less dependent on slave labor. The South, however had rich fertile land mostly used for farming. Huge plantations were cleared and needed to be worked. The people of the area tended to be more genteal, and seemed not quite adjusted to hard work, but more of giving orders. The idea of telling people how to do their work just seemed to fit all too well into this scenario. The railroad didnt have a certain location. Slaves had been running since the 1500s on their own. When the idea caught on amoung brave slaves, was when it started. Slave owners in the South certainly werent happy about the loss of property. It seemed like too much money was being lost. This caused the South to pass the Fugitive Slave Act of 1793. This titled slaves as property of their owners and gave permission to the owners to retrieve runaways any where in the states, even those states that were free. The North was angry about the treatment of the slaves and was not happy about owners being allowed to come into their states to take the slaves back. Finally, the North decided to do something about it. To return the fire thrown at them by the South, they would take away something that the North thought was morally wrong, and the Souths riches. They would help the slaves escape to freedom. The slaves were now angry, scared, and confused. Hearing of this Underground Railroad, they slowl y began to run, more and more. By 1807 a law was passed to make it illegal to import anymore slaves. Agricultural improvements came along, and with the limited number of slaves left in the states, the value of the slaves went up very quickly. Abolition Societies began to form, and along with religious groups became active in helpin gslaves to freedom. .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948 , .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948 .postImageUrl , .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948 , .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948:hover , .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948:visited , .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948:active { border:0!important; } .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948:active , .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948 .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u35bec2687a6446361be2a23f3480f948:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Medieval Art EssayThe Railroad beggan to take shape. A shape that is to this day very hard to describe. Traks were laid to aide the slaves to freedom. People talked in secrecy to make safe paths for the slaves to run on. These were the tracks. Letters were sent that had terminology or code for the balcks. A lot of the terms come from things found along railroads. This is because real railroads at this time were the newest thing and happened to be the topic of choice for conversation. This made it all the easier for the helpers of the railroad to communicate going unoticed.Along the tracks, there were depots, safe houses to stay. These were houses of free whites or blacks w here they could hide when they werent running. The people who owned the houses were often called conductors. The conductors often left a number of signs for the slaves to follow so they didnt go to houses that belonged to allies of the slave owners. A quilt on the clothes line depicting a house with smoke coming out of the chimney was a sign of a safe station. A white ring of bricks around the the top of a houses chimney was another sign of a good hiding spot. Shoppes that were safe often had a silohette of a fleeing man or woman on in sign. Other siggns were used to guide the slaves. There were knocks that slaves used when approaching a house, animal calls, and lights hung in windows. When a slave was moving to the next house along the railroad, this was called catching the next train. There were also songgs that ave directions to slaves that were taught to everyone so that they might memorize the way. One such, was Follow the Drinking Gourd The drinking gourd was the slaves termino logy for the big dipper. The Big Dippers handle points to the north star, which they could use to find their way north. The song gave landmarks along the way to follow and a verse from it says the dead trees will show you the way. This was put in the song for a reason. The writer of this song, refered to as Peg-leg Joe, drew a picture of a peg legg on the dead trees along the track with charcoal. The following verse is Left foot, peg foot traveling on, accordingly. The tracks for the railroad werent exactly laid. A slave had many possible directions to run in, but the main idea here was safty over quickness. The slaves often zigzaged in their paths to avoid being caught. There were different forms of fleeing as well as different paths. Slaves could travel by water on boats. Often in one of the many clever disguises fabricated by the people of the North willing to lend a hand. Men were dressed as women, women were dressed as men, slaves clothes were exchanged for those of a rich fre e person of colors to confuse the true identity of the slave when seen by curious eyes. There were also some slaves that traveled the road, by foot, in a caridge, or in a wagon often containing a fake bottom making a tiny space where slaves could safely journey to freedom. Some traveled on surface linesthe actual railroads of this time. Lightly colored slaves were dressed as whites, and others were put in with the luggage and frieght. And yet dareing others traveled as baggage. Such a person was Henry Box Brown who recieved his nickname by making the long trip in a box marked this side up, and fragile. There are, however, reports from Henry, after he reached the end of the line, where he testified being turned upside down and was thrown about, which makes us all wonder what goes on with our mail service. .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0 , .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0 .postImageUrl , .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0 , .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0:hover , .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0:visited , .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0:active { border:0!important; } .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0:active , .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0 .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uc35a7cc094cae4130c82d617815d71a0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Life of pi EssayIn the end, slaves had to find a way to blend with the people of the North so that they might live their lives free. Some of the escaped fugitves met up with previuosly escaped friends and family and formed communities. Others found a haven in the Native Americans with whom they intermarried and reproduced. The civil war began and others found shelter with the Union Army. The slaves soon found out that freedom did not mean freedom from work, but they were happier because they now made their own decisions. Some died from exposure, after not finding shelter from the Norths frozen winter. Most slaves were not allowed to learn to read and remained illiterate. T heir not being able to read or understand the fact that they had money of their own often lead cruel salesmen and employers to take advantage of the blacks. Those who learned to do specific jobs in the South often took up similar jobs in the North. The need for the railroad slowly began to decrease as the fight for abolishment grew stronger. It was no longer nesscary for the raliroad to be, since almost all the slaves who were going to run already had. The final motion that brought the railraod to its final stop was the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation by Lincoln, ending all slavery in our now free country, forever.
